Let us introduce the Central European Institute of Technology (CEITEC) as it offers numerous core facilities that are involved in several EDUC-WIDE activities.

Established in 2011, CEITEC functions as a consortium of six universities and research institutions based in Brno. Needless to say, one of them is Masaryk University. Its core facilities are equipped with state-of-the-art technologies in the area of life sciences. Among others, they include:

  • the Genomics Core Facility,
  • Bioinformatics Core Facility,
  • Cryo-electron microscopy and Tomography Core Facility,
  • Josef Dadok National NMR Facility,
  • Multimodal and Functional Imaging Laboratory,
  • or Biomolecular Interactions and Crystallography (BIC).

With this new column, you will not only have the chance to delve into CEITEC's facilities, but you will also discover other cutting-edge core facilities from the EDUC Alliance!

CEMCOF - the Cryo-electron microscopy and tomography core facility

CEMCOF provides state-of-the-art electron microscopy instrumentation for structural and cellular biology research. Specifically, it is equipped with advanced microscopes such as the Titan Krios, Talos Arctica, Talos F200C, and Glacios 2.

Furthermore, The facility supports comprehensive electron microscopy workflows, starting from sample preparation and optimization for cryo-EM to advanced techniques such as focused ion beam micromachining of cellular lamellas. Additionally, CEMCOF continuously integrates emerging techniques like electron diffraction tomography (micro-ED).
